Lincoln Golf Club Seniors Vice-Captain's Away Day Rotherham GC Friday 30 July 2021

Your Event Details

As a result of visiting Rotherham Golf Club yesterday I’m now able to fully outline all the details for this years Vice Captain’s Away Day. The Course is in excellent condition and both the Professional and Catering Manager are very keen that we have a good day.

Arriving at Rotherham Golf Club

Please can I request that everyone playing wears the Lincoln Golf Club match outfit, white monogrammed tee-shirt and dark shorts/trousers.  There is no need to bring a change of clothes, just footwear suitable for wearing in the Clubhouse.

Rotherham Golf Club’s address is Doncaster Road, Thrybergh, Rotherham, S65 4NU. Once you have turned into RGC you have a wonderful vista of the course on either side of you leading eventually to the historic neo-gothic Clubhouse. Parking is to the right.

Please enter the Clubhouse by the main entrance and turn left into the Bar, please report first to John May who will take you through registration. Please can you wear a mask inside the Clubhouse in line with RGC’s Covid instructions.

Coffee and Bacon Roll will be served from 12:45 onwards in the Bar.

There are good practice facilities with a driving range and putting green close to the Bar and two practice nets slightly further away.

The Competition

The first tee-off is, as previously notified, at 1:30pm. A draw has been made for playing partners, it reflects a balance of handicaps plus organizational requirements, and shown at the end of this note. Players will play in threes.

The theme for the day is “Everyone Counts” and I’ve tried to come up with a format that gives everyone a chance of winning a prize.

The main competition will be an Individual Stableford played off 95% of course handicap and off yellow tees. Your handicap for the event will have been pre-entered on your card. There is no need to hole out if you cannot score on a particular hole. RGC have asked if we can encourage a good pace of play and I’m sure that we will all respect this request. Now that Covid restrictions will have been lifted, we will revert to the normal method of scoring, ie, swap cards with one of your playing partners.

Prizes will be awarded to the Winner, 2nd and 3rd.

There will also be a team competition between each group of three players.

The winners will be calculated by simply adding their three total Individual Stableford scores together and will receive a prize.

The best individual Stableford score by a “Senior Senior” (aged over 70 on the day of the competition) will also receive a prize.

Anyone who scores a two will receive a prize.

There will also be a couple of other surprise competitions running to give more Seniors the chance of winning a prize and I’ll also be looking to recognize individual achievements.

There will be no booby prizes, the course is challenging enough!

There are no longer any Covid restrictions when playing the Course.

At the end of your round please return to the Bar and please handover your card to Derek Johnson, who will be recording all the scores.

The Meal and Prize Giving

As for previous Vice Captain’s Away Days we will all sit down to eat together, this will be in the Jack Hulley Room, and will be as soon as the last group out arrive in the Bar. The Meal will be Meat and Potato Pie and Peas. If those who finish early are hungry the Bar can provide snacks (at own cost). If you have any special dietary needs, please can I ask you to speak to Sophie who is the Catering Manager at RGC, her telephone number is 01709 850466.

The Prize Giving will take place at the end of the meal.

I’m really hoping that everyone taking part will have an enjoyable day out at one of Yorkshire’s most prestigious golf courses.
